The owners of this small bathroom in downtown Vancouver wanted a more refined and updated look, while staying true to the antique style of the building. They preferred the practicality of a walk-in shower, and needed to reclaim as much storage space as possible.
To achieve this, we gutted the wet area to studs and deconstructed a portion of the ancient plaster to access the wall cavity. A custom wood veneered recessed wall cabinet was fabricated and installed with beveled mirrored doors.
Extensive modifications to the existing framing was required to retrofit a cast iron Kohler shower base and Kohler fixtures into the trapezoidal space. The wet area is sealed with a modern, frame-less glass enclosure.
The custom wood veneered vanity sports a set of internal drawers for added storage without sacrificing the clean look of full height cabinet doors. Lastly, classic subway tiles and octagon floor tiles with dot accent were installed to complete the early 20th century throwback.
